bio / info

Evelyn Thistle Rhodes received a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University in 1969. She moved to an island in Narragansett Bay in 1976 because it was the most beautiful place she had ever seen.

Since then she has been painting the light and shifting colors of the landscape and coast, capturing the rural character, and rendering the many moods of nature and the subtle movement of the seasons. “I like to think of these paintings as windows that transcend reality, through which the viewer can almost feel the breeze that was blowing when the scene was captures on paper or canvas. I am continually awed, thrilled and challenged by the natural beauty around me.”

In 1988 Evelyn was invited as one of New England’s finest living artists who paint from life to exhibit at the Attleboro Museum’s show “New England Impressions.” She has continued to conduct workshops in the Narragansett Bay area throughout her career.

Evelyn Thistle Rhodes has been an invited artist at the Mystic Maritime Museum, Connecticut; The Hermitage, Norfolk, Virginia; The Fremantle Art Museum, Australia; and The Naval War College Museum, Rhode Island.
